Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has proven to be an effective treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS, allowing for viral suppression and improved quality of life. In Gombe State, ART is provided to individuals living with HIV through government and non-governmental organizations. Despite its availability, several factors affect the effectiveness of ART, including adherence, healthcare infrastructure, and stigma. Adherence to ART is essential for reducing HIV viral loads and preventing drug resistance, yet non-adherence remains a major concern in many regions. This study will assess the effectiveness of ART in Gombe State by evaluating the rate of viral suppression among patients, adherence levels, and the role of healthcare systems in supporting ART recipients.
While ART has shown significant promise in improving the health of individuals living with HIV, the effectiveness of ART in Gombe State is still under scrutiny due to challenges such as poor adherence to medication, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and the stigma associated with HIV. These factors contribute to treatment failure, drug resistance, and overall poor health outcomes among people living with HIV. This study aims to explore the factors influencing ART effectiveness in Gombe State, with the goal of recommending solutions to improve adherence and treatment outcomes.
This study will focus on individuals receiving ART in health facilities across Gombe State, examining treatment outcomes and adherence levels. Limitations include the potential for non-disclosure of non-adherence due to stigma, and the challenge of collecting longitudinal data on ART outcomes.
